Medium Term Accommodation

NDIS Medium-Term Accommodation is a support option provided for individuals who need temporary housing and support for a longer period than short-term stays, typically ranging from a few weeks to a few months, generally up to 90 days.

What is Medium Term Accommodation?

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) is a temporary housing solution designed for NDIS participants who need somewhere to live while waiting for their long-term housing solution to become available. It typically bridges the gap between short-term arrangements and a permanent home, ensuring continuity of care and support.

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) under the NDIS is designed to support your transitional housing needs. It's not a standalone support but is included in your plan alongside other home and living supports, typically funded for up to 90 days.

Medium Term Accommodation funding covers the cost of the accommodation itself, providing a temporary solution due to your disability support needs. For instance, you might require Medium Term Accommodation while waiting for home modifications to be completed, or you might have secured a long-term home, like Specialist Disability Accommodation, but are waiting for it to become available.

Please note, Medium Term Accommodation funding does not cover day-to-day living costs such as food, internet, or electricity. Medium Term Accommodation funding also doesn’t include any personal care supports, or other supports you get in your home. NDIS fund other disability supports separately if you need them while you stay in medium term accommodation.

Who is it for?

Medium Term Accommodation is intended for NDIS participants who:

● Are awaiting modifications to their home to make it accessible.

● Have secured a long-term housing solution that is not yet ready.

● Are transitioning from a hospital or rehabilitation facility and need a temporary place to stay.

● Require a medium-term solution due to unforeseen changes in their living arrangements.
